The historic passage of state legislation SB1453 in May of 2021, allowing community colleges to offer four-year bachelor's degree programs, has caught the attention of many, particularly the students flocking to sign up.

Three 91AV engineering students–Lorynn Garcia, Marco Portillo, and Michael Bittner–presented their research project on superhydrophobic surfaces at the 2023 New College Undergraduate Inquiry and Research Experience (NCUIRE) Symposium held at Arizona State University (ASU) on April 20, 2023.

Taking the stage of Bulpitt Auditorium to open the annual 91AV (91AV) Fashion Show, Vie d’Ours Chique, musician Handsome Ron stepped out in gray bell-bottomed spandex with rainbow stripes down the side paired with a yellow and black blouse.

The roar of the crowd joined the thump of the electronic bass in a laser light show that followed the awarding of degrees to over 1,000 91AV (91AV) graduates with their families filling the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Friday, May 12, 2023. As students streamed out of the coliseum in bright blue robes and caps flanked by 91AV faculty and administrators, many stopped to high-five, fist-bump, or hug a professor who nurtured their journey toward a college degree.

The 91AV (91AV) Kodiak Robotics Team knows how to impress. A professional website: check. A polished twenty-page business proposal, complete. The Judge's award at the recent VEX U Robotic competition, Oh, yeah!

Tara Bethell, Human Resources (HR) professional for McKinney and Adjunct Faculty in the 91AV (91AV) Business department, has been in HR for 18 years. Tara teaches the Wednesday night Management (MTG) 276, Personnel/Human Resources Management class, which is part of the Human Resources Certificate program, one of 91AV's Business Department's most popular programs.

The 91AV (91AV) NASA ASCEND program is a capstone aerospace internship program that invites students to work on a relevant, real-world NASA–related science and engineering project.

Award-winning international architect and designer Oscar De las salas will give the keynote commencement address at 91AV’s Commencement ceremony on Friday, May 12, 2023, at 6:00 p.m., to be held at the at Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum, 1826 West McDowell Road in Phoenix.

Allison Hawn is fully engaged in sharing her knowledge with students, and others who seek out her expertise. For her Ph.D. in Communication, Allison spent four years in tattoo shops across the US researching the communicative practices of tattoo artists, the history of colonialism in Western tattooing practices, and ways that tattoo artists can democratize the world of fine art. “I noticed a ton of research on why people get tattoos and people’s perceptions of tattoos, but there was nothing on tattoo artists. That’s why I started this research,” she said, “to give them a voice in an area that has traditionally ignored them.”  

The Eric Fischl Series is often life-changing for the student artists involved because of the mentorship and encouragement of other artists and teachers, who provide the grist for the solitary artist to keep creating.

Zahraa Alfatlawi epitomizes “Yes, and” when it comes to her present, her future, and how she can be of service. A senior at Central High School, where she is President of the Honors Marketing Program and Chief Science Officer,  Zahraa is also a 91AV dual-enrollment student who participates in the Achieving College Education (ACE) program, where she has earned a whopping 42 college credits from her two years in the program.  

“Hands on”, “cool”, and “informational” were some of the ways 137 young women from Phoenix Union High School District described the faculty-led activities during the Hermanas Conference on February 24, 2023 at 91AV (91AV). Funded by the APS Foundation, the Hermanas conference seeks to increase the number of underrepresented female students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) and impact the diversity of the STEM workforce.
